Default How do you monetize \"go green\"

Let's say you have the ability to reach a large number of people who are interested in helping the environment. How do you make money from them besides the obvious (selling enviro-friendly product, or shirts about the environment or whatever)

Set up a "save the planet" rally and then surround them at gunpoint.

Start a non-profit.
Solicit donations.
Appoint yourself or your firend director, give yourself a fat salary.

So other than merchandising no one has any great ideas on how to capitalize on this demographic and the ability to reach them easily. All these great minds... and only jokes.

Hippies like to purchase overpriced presumably high-margin organic foods.

There are tons of way to do this...
As much as I hate to mention him, google
Thomas Friedman. He is big on going green
right now and wrote some articles on monetizing it.

Here is an example: The energy company supplying
power to Austin had a deal where consumers could
pay more for Wind-generated power. The company got
a higher margin and used green technology.

As mentioned by haakee, selling organic is a high
margin way to make $ from them, Levitt talks about
that in Freakonomics with organic coffee from Starbucks.

If you want a bunch of suggestions all you have to do
is go to a green festival. They have them every year in
San Francisco and in New York.

If you want to see a less commercial version, go to
SolFest at the Solar Living Institute in Hopland, CA.
