Hybrids
Everyone seems to have one these now. Seems like if you hit your long irons / fairway woods well these are just a waste of time - or am I missing something?

Re: Hybrids
I took out the 3iron and added one a couple of years ago because it flys higher and lands softer. Also you can hit it cleaner out of light rough.

Everyone seems to have one these now. Seems like if you hit your long irons / fairway woods well these are just a waste of time - or am I missing something? [/ QUOTE ] Well, you're hitting the point exactly but missing it entirely. How many recreational golfers do you know who can hit their long irons/fairway woods "well" a consistent amount of the time? It's like saying, "if you can run 35 mph without tiring for several miles, it seems like having a car would be a waste of time, or am I missing something?" Ok, it's not exactly like that, but it's the same idea. There are other elements, though. For one, from 200 yards out it's a hell of a lot easier to get a hybrid to stop on the green than it is a long iron. Also, they're a hell of a lot easier to hit out of the rough. So, I guess if you consistently hit your long irons/fairway woods well from both the fairway and the rough, and can get said clubs to check up on the greens with ease, then yes, hybrid clubs are a waste of time. I can't do that, so my hybrid was an excellent addition to the bag. |
