Default raising question

just a general question. say you're bb with 4 ppl in on the flop and no preflop raises. if sb bets on the flop and you have a decent but not great draw hand, i know some ppl raise to get the 2 ppl behind you out to improve your odds of winning (esp in limit he), how much does this help in ssnl if you don't know what sb has?

this is an awful play in nlhe. big pots are for big hands. you don't ever raise in nlhe with the worst hand to knock people out. only do so as a bluff or semibluff. you should be folding marginal hands when the sb bets out with 2 players behind you. this is covered in NLHETAP.

Almost replied with specifics, but then realized question is too vague/ambiguous...yeah, need hand example.

you're raising to steal the pot, not to "improve your odds of winning." as others have said, you should probably just post hands. but this type of play is generally reasonable.

If the flop bet by sb is small enough to make me want to do this, then I'd probably just call because if the other players are bad enough to open limp then I don't think they're going to exploit flop weakness too well.

Also in limit you would usually raise in this spot to try to fold overcards which may be dirty outs for you. For example:

TJ on 8 7 2 r board

An example like this doesn't really apply well NL because even if SB bets 1/2 pot, there are VERY few opponents who will peel with just 2 overs.
