Default What is the proper tip rate for casino tournaments?

I was lucky/good enough to split 1st and 2nd at a small tourny at Bally's in Atlantic City recently. 20 people entered, and it ran for about 3 1/2 hours. After it ended, and we'd been paid, neither of us were sure what a proper tip was.

Is there a set percentage of the winnings? A generally accepted set amount? Does the tip amount depend on number of entrants and/or length of time the tourny lasts? The entry fees?

What about for single tables sit n goes? What is the proper tip rate there?

It was an $80 + $20 buy in, and we each got $680 - pre-tipping.

I don't want to cheat the dealers, but I don't want to overpay either.

Please advise.

Thank you.

From what I've seen on 2+2, 5% is standard.

Can someone explain who it's standard to tip after a win? What about players other than the first place finisher.

I usually just give $10-$20, depending on the size of the win.

2-3% for a major tournament and 3-5% for a smaller ones is fairly standard.

Some casinos take a % of the buyin out for tips and in those cases you may tip extra but shouldn't feel required to.

You should tip whenever you cash for profit. Also, the amount you tip should be based upon your profit and not how much you cashed for. For example, If you usually tip 3% and cash for $200 in a $100 buyin tournament you should tip $3 as opposed to $6.
