dallas/ft. worth
why do people from here say, i'm from dallas/ft. worth.
isn't it enough to just say dallas? is ft. worth so great, they must include this? i've heard this from a number of people that i've met from there. |

[/ QUOTE ] because probably the person isnt from dallas or else he'd say he is. he's probably from grapevine and if he said he was you'd say "huh?" and then he'd say "it's a suburb in the DFW area". and you'd say, "oh, never heard of it" and he'd say "oh, ok" and then you'd stare awkwardly at each other. |

Re: dallas/ft. worth
people from Texas usually refer to it as the Metroplex
small cities of part of the county: irving, arlington, grand prarie, southlak, richardson, plano. The city limits and population of Dallas are not as big as the surrounding areas. The airport is even closer to Ft. Worth than it is dallas. |

Re: dallas/ft. worth
they're twin cities, and it's a metroplex (continuous urbanization), and like another poster said many people live in unheard of suburbs that are near the cities, the us census bureau refers to teh area as dfw, trend might ahve been established by the naming of DFW international airport.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree. You can't say Texas, because then the question is where in Texas. And you can't say Dallas only, unless you do live in Dallas, because then people go off on their little anecdotes about Dallas proper that they have experienced and ask you about it, and then you say "well, really I am from Grapevine and don't go to Dallas that much." Then you come off as saying not so truthful things. |

Re: dallas/ft. worth
oddjob,
People are weird about their metropolises, and will choose the one that best reflects their social standing. Nobody from Orange County is from "LA", people out here from Scottsdale often will correct you if you say they're from Phoenix (retarded), and I'm sure the people in NYC do the same thing, yet in an even more obnoxious way. |
