Check behind turn/call river vs. Bet Turn/check behind river (HU)
Check behind Turn/call river vs. Bet Turn/check behind river (HU)
These two similar lines (cost-wise) are oft mentioned in 6-max posts. Tell this noob when and in what situations/circumstances we're more inclined to use one versus the other (in the example of a heads-up confrontation on the turn and river, obviously) I understand that the BetT/Check(behind)R line allows us a free showdown of sorts, and the Check(behind)T/CallR can induce a bluff- is that mainly it? NOTE- FOR THIS QUESTION, ASSUME WE'RE HEADS-UP AND ON THE BUTTON (closing all action) Finally, a sincere thanks for your assistance. |

Re: Check behind turn/call river vs. Bet Turn/check behind river (HU)
The following assumes Hero has a hand with SD value
Some important factors - villains AF. The less aggro he is the more inclined you should bet the turn - Board texture. The more likely it is that villain has a draw the more you should bet. - # of cards that improves Hero's hand. If you have to call a raise you should check even more against aggro opponents and bet even more against passive opponents. You check against aggros cuz the value of a free card increases and you bet against passives cuz your neccesary folding equity decreases as you improve more often. - If villain will bluff raise turn more often than bet river you should bet turn even against aggros. A lot of better villains wont bluff the river cuz they know your line is with a hand that beats them. So if they bet river you loose. |

Re: Check behind turn/call river vs. Bet Turn/check behind river (HU)
Things to consider:
How often you will get checkraised, how much showdown value your hand has, how often you want to see the river no matter what, how likely you are induce a river bluff by checking the turn, and how often villian will fold if you bet (knowing whether or not he peels the flop with crap is helpful) |
