Question about BW squat Tabata
If you don't know about Tabatas, here's the t-nation write-up. Summary:
[ QUOTE ] It's simple: take one exercise and perform it in the following manner: 1) For twenty seconds, do as many repetitions as possible. 2) Rest for ten seconds 3) Repeat seven more times! That's it! You're done in four minutes! [/ QUOTE ] Ok. I'm wondering how many reps of BW squats would be considered respectable here. (Yes, I know I'm pathetic for doing BW squats. But I would still appreciate any other comments as well.) |

Anyways, I was crawling on the ground afterwards, it's not sissy at all. |

Re: Question about BW squat Tabata
I've never done an official Tabata-length session with them, but I like mixing them in at random times.
The disparity between how tough Tabata drills sound, and how tough they can actually be, is incredible. |

Re: Question about BW squat Tabata
You should not worry about respectable very much. Just do as many as you can. Work on good form while you are doing them and go down low.

Re: Question about BW squat Tabata
Sub, you don't keep score by total number of squats, but by the fewest number of squats in a round. So if you go out hard and die later your reps might be something like this:
15 12 8 7 7 6 7 7 Your score is 6 even though you did a lot more squats in other rounds. This encourages you to pace yourself somewhat, and thus MAINTAIN a high power output, not a 20 second burst of power. Elite athltetes have scores of 20 or 21 (so 160+ total squats). Getting over 10 in each round would be a solid goal to start. |

[/ QUOTE ] Cool, that was my suspicion. ~1 squat/sec sounds like the limit of what you could do with good form. I'm at an 18 score right now. Will be interesting to see how long it takes me to get to the 20 level. (I do the squat tabata 6 days a week.) |
