Default STATA file

Ive received some data from the UK data archive and it is in the .dta format. Ive downloaded STATA but i dont really know how to use it, I usually use EVIEWS. I tried to open the .dta file in STATA so that i can then import it into EVIEWS but it says that the file is too big... where do I go from here? Thanks!

stata stores the entire file it loads in ram, and you need to tell it to use more memory. the command would be something like

set memory 100m

assuming the file were less than 100 megs.
