Fold predraw and after the first draw. Button is a goofball but regardless, the best hand you can make is an 86 and you're OOP against 2 players.

From the SB I don't mind the call pre-draw, with the read you have on button.

However, I'll need to hit a 2, 3 or 5 to continue. Maybe a 7, but I've learned to hate 87s. As it turned out, I check/fold this after the first draw due to the poor position.

I don't see any need for Hero to play this hand. It's not going to play well three-handed, and Hero has position on the "live" player four hands out of six! Even if this hand is marginally +ChipEV I think it is probably -$EV.

You're going to win SNGs by being first into the pot and playing pots with position, not by finding marginal situations to call OOP.

Even if we continue only with a deuce or a three... let's say we have 7 live outs (half an out per rank per player rule of thumb) in a 42 card stub. I'm ignoring BB because we don't know what sort of hand he has at all. That means Hero's getting 35:7 odds (5:1) of catching good. That exactly matches the 5:1 pot odds, admittedly, but even discounting the action on future streets (which probably does not favor Hero), Hero could face a raise from the big blind, increasing his cost to see the first draw.

In a 2-chip/3-chip blind structure ($20/$30 instead of $15/$30) I think it would swing things to a definite call.

Duh, I made a very stupid mistake. The odds I gave were for drawing one card and getting a 2 or 3, but Hero is drawing two here.

You'll still be left with an 86 draw OOP in a small pot. So I still believe it's not a good place. But perhaps not as bad as I thought.
