Willing and Able?
Hello everyone. As my first post, I would like to state my goals and seek help in achieving them. First, let me tell you a little about myself.
I have been playing poker for 3 years. I have had success playing live nl in the 200-400 range. However, when playing these same stakes online I have been getting crushed and can't seem to find a way to win. I have read all the books over and over again. I have been a long time lurker on this site and p5's. I take my game very seriously, but for some reason I just can't win online. I play poker as a hobby, but I will not be able to continue to do so if I keep losing. There is no casino or card room near me, so online is the only option. Please guide me. I am giving it one last shot with a $1,000 roll. I am going to follow strict bankroll management and start at 25nl. I am going to move up when I have 40 buy-ins for the next level and move down when I drop 10 buy-ins at my current level. I also enjoy playing tournaments and will play $5-$10 buy-ins. I have pokertracker and a hud and will study my stats regularly. I will not play sessions longer than 2 hours at a time because I tend to burn out and start playing bad. I will not play omaha; it is an evil game. My goal is to turn a modest profit; hell I'll take any profit so long as I don't lose. Thank you for reading. Is there anything else you suggest I do to turn it around? Does this look like a good plan of attack? |

Re: Willing and Able?
Omaha is crazy, but not evil.
You cannot start from live NL200 and go into NL200 and expect to win I think (I've not played live though). What you're doing right now seems right but you have to start posting and discussing problem hands here. |

Hello everyone. As my first post, I would like to state my goals and seek help in achieving them. First, let me tell you a little about myself. welcome I have been playing poker for 3 years. I have had success playing live nl in the 200-400 range. However, when playing these same stakes online I have been getting crushed and can't seem to find a way to win. live games are extremely eazier than online games. you should definetly be playing lower stakes online than you do live. a nl100 online player is euqual to a nl1000 live player. I have read all the books over and over again. I have been a long time lurker on this site and p5's. I take my game very seriously, but for some reason I just can't win online. you can do it! I play poker as a hobby, but I will not be able to continue to do so if I keep losing. There is no casino or card room near me, so online is the only option. Please guide me. [censored] card rooms! rake is way too high and online you can multi-table. I am giving it one last shot with a $1,000 roll. I am going to follow strict bankroll management and start at 25nl. I am going to move up when I have 40 buy-ins for the next level and move down when I drop 10 buy-ins at my current level. this is a good idea. not only for BR management, but also so you can evolve as a player before you move up. I also enjoy playing tournaments and will play $5-$10 buy-ins. alright I have pokertracker and a hud and will study my stats regularly. great I will not play sessions longer than 2 hours at a time because I tend to burn out and start playing bad. sometimes i play for 14 hours straight, then go to sleep, wake up and play more. I will not play omaha; it is an evil game. i've never played it for money. i think the luck factor is too high. My goal is to turn a modest profit; hell I'll take any profit so long as I don't lose. i guarentee this goal will evolve when your skillz do. Thank you for reading. Is there anything else you suggest I do to turn it around? Does this look like a good plan of attack? [/ QUOTE ] |

sometimes i play for 14 hours straight, then go to sleep, wake up and play more. [/ QUOTE ] Sometimes I envy you single people. Once you get married, the odds of this happening decrease. Long poker sessions means the wife is out of town for some reason. [ QUOTE ] i've never played it for money. i think the luck factor is too high. [/ QUOTE ] There's a lot of skill in Omaha. And there's a lot of people playing it who are clueless. That being said, a lot of people don't realize its a post-flop game... preflop hands run much closer together. |

Especially if you buy in for 20BB like I do . But yeah, the best starting hand is only 70% against a random hand. And most "very good" starting hands are only 65% or so against a random hand. |

Re: Willing and Able?
Thank you for the advice so far. I will be posting hands and discussing others hands. Also, Omaha is about 95% luck IMO. But, don't hijack please. I need all the advice I can get. Thanks.

Re: Willing and Able?
I would advise against mixing tournaments and cash games - It's all poker, but a different mindset / strategy is needed for both and until you're a winning player, you're only going to get mixed up IMO.
Good luck. |
