Another \'Where in NYC should I live\' thread
I lived in NYC last summer in the Upper East Side, and loved it. However, it was really expensive, and I'm looking for something different when I start my (semi)permanent job.
I work in midtown (5th ave and 40th) and here are somethings I'm looking for: 1. Quick commute. Either with walking distance, or a fast subway commute. In the summer, the 4,5,6 express got me there real quick. 2. Proximity to soccer fields (outdoor/turf/indoor) 3. Cost. I don't wanna look for places in brooklyn, queens or jersey yet. Let me know if I should provide more information. I appreciate your help. |

The Upper East Side is a relatively cheap area to live in NYC.

yah upper east. Basically that will get you to the 4-5-6 line + go a few blocks east of central park and you'll be fine

the B and D line will get you to bryant park right near your work and it runs along central park west. the prices should get cheaper the closer to columbia, but in general the ues is cheaper

ues and uws (90s and up) are really youre only options.
www.ardorny.com gives you an idea of price ranges and areas. craigslist is good too obviously. |

Re: Another \'Where in NYC should I live\' thread
If you are looking to live by yourself, you will end up paying a ton regarless of where you look in Manhattan. A crappy studio is probably 25%-50% more than what you would pay per month living with a roommate.
If you have a roommate, be prepared to rent a 1 bedroom and convert it into 2 with a temporary wall. I live in a 2 BR converted to 3 in a high rise on the UES (95th St) and pay $1100+ a month in rent for perspective. |

Re: Another \'Where in NYC should I live\' thread
I just finished searching around many parts of Manhattan for a 1 bedroom. I started on the UES because everyone said it was so much cheaper. The 1 bedrooms I found were miniature (really just a studio with a wall jammed in next to the bed) for $1900 per month. Anything bigger was $2,500 or more which was the same price as the UWS and other areas.
After looking through Murray Hill and the upper west side I settled on an elevator high rise apartment building near Columbus Circle with a new-ish apartment for $2,400 per month. I am not much help with the east side thing, other than the prices I found. What is your budget? |
