BRAG: made my own card case for class project (lots of pics)

So I took this insanely awesome class this quarter where you learn how to use all sorts of manufacturing equipment, from lathes (no there isn't one in my living room) to mills, and you learn to weld and cast and all this cool stuff.

Anyways, the point of the class is to design and make any product you want. It's supposed to either be something that you can't buy or improve on an existing product somehow. I ended up making a case to hold two decks of cards. It's made from aluminum, anodized black, etched using a computer-controlled laser, lined with black velvet, and has a removable tray to easily take the cards out (no more having to flip the COPAG/KEM card cases upside down...).

So yeah this project has been my life the last quarter. I made everything you see in the pics below: box top and bottom, removable tray, lined the case myself, made the hinges and the latch, and everything...

BRAG: made my own baller card case, expect to get an A+ on this

BEAT: it cost almost $300 (supplies, machine tools, anodizing)

BEAT: it took 100+ hours

nh minus the beats. The 100 + hours isn't bad if you enjoyed what you were doing.

i think you wouldve been better off using some mahogany instead of aluminum. that anodized stuff tends to come off whenever its banged up against stuff.

Yah, I already have 4 decks of COPAGS and 2 of KEM. I went with these cards for the photos and presentation because of the color scheme.

You have to work with metal in the class - no wood. That said, I had to get a special type of anodizing in order to be able to etch on it, and it doesn't scratch very easily at all. Obviously it will, eventually, but it looks soooooo nice right now.
