Default Bad Play for first hand of Tournament?

I'm a low limit tournament player, been playing for 2 years, mildly profitable, starting to get discouraged at the mild part. Please comment. Any help greatly appreciated.

First hand of a B&M tournament. $120 freeze out. T7000 for everyone, full table. Blinds 25/50. UTG makes it 200.
I'm in middle position with wired 8's and smooth call.
SB folds. BB reraises to 700 flat. UTG calls. I know I'm already behind another hand, but I'm familiar with all the local players and not too concerned about t-700 with this stack, structure, and table. So I decide to call and leave the flop in a hurry unless I see my set.
Flop is 10,8,6 rainbow
check, check to me. I'm all in.
BB calls, UTG folds.

no need to shove...I would have bet about 2/3 of the pot, so about 1500

That's just bad luck. Even though you overplayed your set on the flop, I do not think you can get away from it anyways. Your money goes in sooner or later.

eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, results orientated thinly veiled BBV post. What that means, Ed, is that you need to go to "Brags, Beats and Variance," post this, and then get "flamed." By "flamed," it means that obnoxious 18 year old internet kids will make fun of you for being results-orientated and over-betting the flop. Someone will probably say "lol, live donkament," but you can tell him to go [censored] a mule; actually, you can't, that will get you banned for a day.

Instead of getting discouraged, take a break and try to remember that in tournaments with deep stacks, betting fractions of the pot in early stages is alright. If I had AA in this spot and you pushed like that, I'm folding and you are losing a large portion of my chips. Of course, I'm also betting out because I don't suck as badly as the guy with 1010*.

*That is, unless he has a really good idea what you and UTG's range is.

if youre not a very profitable tournament player, its almost certainly because of your inability to get away from middle set in a 3bet pot.

set vs. set = 1:100
fold set to higher set post flop = 1:???

balancing being too honest/self-critical with maintaining morale/tilt...thks for the comments
