Wiring vs. Carrying cash to a casino
I realize this might be a silly question, and of course everyone has a different comfort level, but ....
And what amount of money do you start wiring the cash to the casino's cage instead of just carrying it on you? For those of you who have wired it, have you had any problems? Is it a hassle? Anything I should ask about, look out for? Thanks, --Headhunter |

Re: Wiring vs. Carrying cash to a casino
I probably would start wiring when it's physically uncomfortable carrying it on my person. so probably around 25-30k.
I'll take the risk of it getting stolen or lost over the fees/hassle of dealing with the bank. |

40k or so would be my breakpoint. I normally travel with a satchel bag and just put a few 10k bricks in that in the bottom, and run it through airport security as carryon.
Never had a problem. |

This should really be in the FAQ.

Re: Wiring vs. Carrying cash to a casino
For me it more a matter of time versus potential seizure.
Most of the time I drive and I really dont worry too much about it and wouldn't unless I was getting into the suit case size amounts. Flying on the other hand... All it takes is one misinformed over zealous law officer to spot that cash in carry on or checked baggage, and even though you have done nothing wrong, broken no laws, been 100% honest and cooperative with them, they seize the money. Then it takes hours, months, years, to get the money back, if you get it back at all. It really freaks some people out to see more money than they make in a year in cash on a twenty something "unemployed" kid... So if I am flying and have a few days notice I am wiring the money every time, even if the risk is very low of seizure, why chance it, versus a couple of days wait and <$100 in fees. I have never had a unresolvable issue with wires and it has never taken more than 4 days to make the funds available on either end. If you wire, make sure you have all the cages info right, and ask them what their normal turn around time is for a wire. Ask the same of your bank. Make sure you confirm receipt too, nothing like thinking the wire is done only to find the cage never got it... |

In another thread, someone said they saw someone with a duffel bag full of cash flying to Miami get hassled. 40k to Vegas is probably pretty routine. |
