For a new player, I'd recommend two books:

Roy West's 42 lessons (may not be the exact title, but he has just one stud book) Good starter book.

7 Card Stud for Advanced Players (Takes you to the next level of thinking)

The two books I used when learning (and still do) were "7 Card Stud for Advanced Players" and "Theory of Poker". Neither is a beginner book, but I'm the type of guy who likes to dig in deep and quickly. I really didn't have too much difficulty with either one, though I've read both multiple times now and learn more every time.

Theory of poker is one of my favorites!

I will check the other ones out! Thanks for your help.

I dont want to cause trouble by writing about brunson here, but what do you all think about SS:s chapter about stud?

I personally haven't read it but heard it's pretty good. Why would you think you'd cause trouble? Doyle plays stud too you know...

IMO, Todd Brunsons chapter on Stud 8/B in SS2 is the preeminent work ever written on the game, without a close competitor.

Thanks for your all your help, I will read the SS2 and reread theory of poker sense they are standing in my bookshelf already.

I am going to try stud to have a break from the hold'em. Need something new to focus on!

The SS1 section on stud written by Chip Reese is also a very good place to start for stud. I personally found it to be a good read, and have also seen a good many favorable comments about it on this forum as well.

Huh???

You must be joking? I certainly don't agree with every single piece of information in it, but it's the most comprehensive book on stud probably ever written.

Or....your copy has a really bad hygiene problem.
