Default Anything good on TV during the day?

When home during the day, I usually turn on CNBC, which seems kind of pitiful. Let's review the other major possibilities, and I'm excluding nighttime programming that's repeated during the day:

"Daytime dramas". I'm thinking there's no possible way. Aside from all the other negatives, don't they usually stretch 15 minutes of plot into 5 hours of show?

Talk shows with celebrities. This is a little like watching Jay Leno without the funny parts ... I mean, it's like watching Jay Leno. Although the first 5 minutes of Kelly and Regis are ok.

Court shows. Some of these might seem ok, but only if I'm doing something else at the same time, and they're always 10 minutes of actual show, 10 minutes of commercials, and 10 minutes of promos showing what's going to happen in the next segment. Also just wondering, would Judge Judy get less annoying after several viewings?

Self-improvement. I can imagine agreeing to watch something like Dr. Phil as restitution for a crime I committed, but voluntarily? No.

Freak shows. These are viewer-friendly because they always display the topic on-screen for the entire duration of the episode, but why does the topic always have to be paternity tests? I don't like paternity tests.

sports? Do you have ESPN classic? thats always got something entertaining on.

movies?

Obviously i only have knowledge of british tv, but i'm going to assume the two arent that different in content. Surely there's a channel thats showing Diagnosis Murder or the A Team or something like that.

In other words... No Get a DVR and record good [censored] that comes on when you are out of the house or sleeping. Then watch it while the TV is flooded with soap operas and [censored] talk shows and game shows

lol

Food Network's not a bad recommendation, although it always makes me hungry and I never have the necessary ingredients. And when it doesn't make me hungry it makes me nauseous.

Today I stayed with CNBC, which went well I thought.

*** CNBC/stock market [spoiler] alert ***

In Monday's trading the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished down 28.28 points. It would have closed down only 28.27 points, but Mrs. Eunice P. Samuels of North Funnel, New Jersey decided to sell 500 shares of AT&T near the close, instead of waiting til tomorrow.

The History Channel, History International, and the Military Channel have some pretty cool shows during the day, if you're into WWII/Middle Ages/military/technology kinds of things.
