Default Penalties for splashing the pot

The home game I play in has just grown in the last couple of months. We are now expierening the chip splashers, who think its cool to splash the pot no matter what they bet. Whats a good remedy for this problem without pissing off to many people?

"Please don't splash the pot" works for my game.

Remind them if the amount they put in the pot cannot be identified, they will need to put the amount in again.

Yep I have tried it politely and also mean. I am what is known as the "bad cop" for game rules.

If you are acting as the tournament director then advise all players of the rules for splashing which could be something like this:

1st offense gets a warning, 2nd offense gets a 10 minute penalty, 3 offense gets a 20 minute penalty, etc.

The same kind of penalty can also be used for players who act out of turn.

The first time you warn them. The second time the chips stay in the pot but don't count as a bet or call. the third time your not invited back to the game.

You can't identify the bet amount? They didn't make a bet and have to properly bet the proper amount AGAIN. The previous money is a dead money bonus.

Two game nights, you won't have any more splashing.

EDIT- I saw that the rest of the responses were similar. Maybe we should start a project- the "2+2 Home Poker game rulebook"

Of course, we'd probably just duplicate work already done and out there.. :P

Yeah I think this is the path I will take as the game dictator. We dont do tourneys so time penalties wont really work. Also lets make a rulebook!

"When you throw your chips in the middle like that it's hard to tell how much was actually put in. It slows down the game and is against the rules. Don't do it again or you'll be forced to put the bet in again."

You can't get more civil and to the point than that.

And you have to enforce it.
