Default 4/8 live - Call two cold with small pairs?

Quick and probably easy question...
4/8 live game, I am in MP and hold 77.

UTG+1 raises, a couple folds, and action is to me.
Is there a “standard” course of action here?

Fold unless the players behind you are quite loose and passive.

It depends how many people generally call pf. If its around 6 players, definatly call. If its 2 or 3 handed definatly fold.

Well, that's the weird part. Here is the actual hand...

UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, a couple players fold, and action is to me. Now, it looked to me like UTG+1 raised - because UTG's call chips were touching UTG+1's call chips. I questioned whether it was two calls, or one raise - and hot chick says “it's $8, he raised”. I guess the dealer did not hear me question this. I folded my 77, to what I thought was a lone raise by UTG+1, and no calls. Hot chick folds and BB calls. Then the dealer separates the first two calls, and clarifies that it was two calls, not one raise. I am pissed because I would obviously have called one bet with 77, but because of the sloppy calls, and misinformation by Hot Chick, I thought it was a raise.

So when I realized the error, and Hot Chick realized it too - I, like an idiot, told her I folded 77. When I told her this, she questioned why I would have folded 77 to a raise anyway.

So, her questioning this, is what led to me posting this thread. I felt ok with folding my 77 from an EP raise and no callers when it got to me. But I wanted to see what others thought. I am sometimes too tight, so I wanted to see if this 77 fold was indeed too tight.

Depends on the game. If the people coming after you are prone to cold calling a raise and not likely to reraise then maybe. SSHE says YES to call in a loose game where 6-8 see the flop and NO to calling in a tight game where 3-5 see the flop. My normal game is right in the middle, typically 5.5 players see the flop but it can get very aggressive sometimes so this is just the kind of judgement call I need to make, no "standard" action. Its fine to pay two bets for 77 if you are fairly certain that 5 people will see the flop. Your chance of hitting the set are about 1 in 8 but implied odds make it a very good payoff when you hit the set so if you have 4 other people in for two bets its a bargain. You don't have good odds if it gets re raised or if if you have less then 4 others. Hitting a set in a large raised multi player pot is a wonderful situation............yumyum!

I fold unless there are a ton of really loose people behind me.

I 3-bet if UTG+1 is a LAG, but other than that, I fold.

A good rule to go by is not to be the first coldcaller to a raise.

With more players in between calling, then coldcalling becomes more of an option.

First one to face the raise? 3 bet or fold.

I'll add that I try to never say I folded a pocket pair. I also try to avoid mentioning that I folded suited or connected cards. I like my low limit live games nice and loose-passive.
