Theory of Poker Question...
The first time I read TOP, I didn't understand most of it and I read it as if it were a novel. After reading HOH-1, however, a light bulb seemed to go off in my head recently while reading TOP the second time. Apparently, Harrington makes it possible to understand Sklansky. This may be Dan's greatest accomplishment!
I hear a lot on this forum about how outdated and obsolete SuperSystem is based on how the games and players play today. I was wondering, has, or could, the same thing happen to TOP? |

Re: Theory of Poker Question...
It is very unlikely TOP will ever become outdated. SuperSystem became outdated simply because much of the advice is specific to types of games and styles of players not commonly seen anymore. TOP is a book of fundamental probability and poker concepts that are not game-specific. For instance, if Sklansky uses stud as an example, the concept he is teaching could apply to virtually any form of poker.
In other words... The chapter on 5-card draw in SS? Probably not going to help you too much nowadays. Sklansky's materials on EV and semi-bluffing are things that will carry to all games for all times. |
