Live deepish hand from a while back.
Thought i might post this just to generate some discussion.
This hand is from a while back in live play at NYC. It's late(4am) game has broken down to 4 players... Villain is this hand is totally LAG..very very very LAG...more LAG than me...he isnt necessarily a good LAG..just very LAG.. He is also on tilt slightly cuz he lost a decent sized pot a few mins ago. He has seen me play for a while, and ive built my stack from about 3k to 8k... Effective stacks about $6k. I am UTG...villain is in BB.. 5-10 blinds I raise with K2o to 40. Villain calls... Flop is K5Tr Villain checks...i bet 100..villain makes it 400.i call.. Turn is a 4, making 2 flush.. He leads 800, i make it 2000 His range can be anything here from total air to possibly 555...bigger set he prolly would reraise pf. I think if i call this turn...he might move on river depending on the card that fell. There are a few reasons i raised this turn :- 1) I thought he might read me for a pair + fd picked up on turn and push with Ace high, I think if he pushes here its a monster(top 2 or better) or something like Ace high, i dont think he will push here with something like KJ, so if he did push i would decide based on physical reads. 2) My raise might get him to muck a hand like K8 or so. 3) If he calls he prolly checks down river without a rock crusher. Re: Live deepish hand from a while back.
I like the turn plan. I hate preflop although I know you'll say that makes me a nit. Flop is fine, obviously, but I would check behind here at least 50% of the time if not more.

Re: Live deepish hand from a while back.
Im all about lagging it up, especially 4 handed, but K 2 is a really worthless hand.

Re: Live deepish hand from a while back.
With 600BBs in a 4-handed NL game, I think preflop is irrelevant. If he wants to get in there and dance with K2o, so be it, so long as he can read his opponents correctly later in the hand.
Against this laggy guy, given the flop and the preflop action, why not check the flop and let him bluff into you on the turn and river. Sure he might catch up and make a better hand on you, but given you're against a super-lag with a hand that has some showdown value, but not one you want to play to the felt, then check the flop to throw him some rope and catch his bluffs. I really don't like the flop bet. You got him to raise you (did you want that?) and now you're playing a gigantic pot with a marginal hand. I like keeping this one small and playing for showdown. |

I talked with TWP/F_V and they talked of the flop check as well..i agree the flop check is a good idea...
