Non-Burned card
What happens (live)when a dealer forgets to burn a card right before the flop, turn or river? This happened once in a home game last night, a guy forgot to burn a card before the flop and we just played the hand out anyways. Is that what happens in a casino?

Re: Non-Burned card
Different casinos probably have different rulings on that. In a home game amongst friends I probably wouldn't sweat it as long as no one is expected of being a cheat.

Re: Non-Burned card
As deacsoft mentioned, in a home game you'd normally just play it out. Of course, someone will whine because the cards didn't come out right. Which is stupid, but gamblers can be kinda stupid.
In a casino normally the card would be treated as exposed and used as the burn so the "right" card(s) would be on the board. |

Re: Non-Burned card
Yea, our group is a very cool bunch of guys. One first timer last night that caught on quick which was nice as well. No serious money but a lot of fun. I used to play really tight in these things but it was not fun at all. Now I play a lot more hands, try and just hav a good time. I am pretty good at post flop play and I usually make a few bucks here and there but that is just frosting. Now if I can only get my friends to play some stud or omaha in add to NLHE that would be nice thing.

Re: Non-Burned card
Oh, man, once you introduce them to a game like pot-limit Omaha, they won't want to go back. We play a rotation game with one round of NLHE and one round of PLO (high only) and the Omaha rounds generate much more action and are generally more fun.

Re: Non-Burned card
I would love to play mixed games in the home game. Most of the guys that play think that middle position is referring to the Kama Sutra and Pot Odds is when you can't buy a joint.

Re: Non-Burned card
I haven't even looked this up but my instinct is to take the burn card out of the flop, make sure everybody has seen, and then take the next card to finish the flop.
As a side note, I realize this is a home game and friendlyness is the order of the day but my own belief is that you should follow the common rules so that when these guys catch on and go to casinos they will be more ready for it rules-wise. I have noticed that if you let some rules "slip", this will ultimately cause more trouble than is worth. |

Re: Non-Burned card
I think this (re: PantsOnFire) would be standard when I've seen it happen in casinos. Of course it doesn't matter which card is which since they're random, but some people are very attached to the idea of a specific card being the one they "deserved" to get.
If there were significant action I think you'd have to let it stand, but I'm not sure what the definition is. I think it's two players acting. If someone who missed the flop folded to a bet, then you can't very well rule their hand dead yet change the flop, can you? |
