Default Calling European Stud Players

I'm headed to Spain in about 3 weeks. Gonna be there until the end of July. I'm definitely super excited about it. I plan on doing a ton of traveling, but I figure since I'm gonna be there for so long, I might drop in on a casino or two. Any suggestions of casinos or countries? How about EPT events, are cash games good during those times? I know they spread a lot of PLO in Europe, how about any stud? Any advice in general would be appreciated. Thanks for the help and I hope you're enjoying the holidays as much as I am

Mike

Hi Mike,

yeah PLO used to be the most common game here in Europe, but I think Holdem took over since maybe one or two years. I hear in Mediterranian countries 5card draw is still played frequently. I have no idea about live stud play, but I assume itīs close to nonexitstant.

I've been to the main casino in Barcelona (under the Hotel Arts) and the only game spread was PLO. Rake is horrendous however (10% with no cap!) and is filled with 60+ year-old Spaniards and gambling addicted Asians so presume the games are good (I observed as PLO not a game I ever played!). Standard of play was incredibly weak tight but must be tough to beat with the rake anyway.

Wow, draw surprises me. I wouldn't expect it that. I'm thinking about going to Monte Carlo for the ME, I'd imagine the cash games would be pretty good and I don't think it is too long of a train ride from Valencia. Could be a lot of fun and definitely a sweet experience.

Hi greetings from London, UK.

I would expect it to be a helluva train ride: Valencia is on the cost of central spain, Monte Carlo is near the France - Italy border. At an eyeball I'd say 1k miles or so.

Furthermore I doubt you can expect much poker being spread in Monte Carlo on a regular basis, let alone 7cs. The truth is that with few notable exceptions the European live poker scene pretty much sucks.

Wow, I didn't expect it to be that far away, but then again I didn't really look at it besides just a glance of the map. Probably have to fly then. Would you expect the games to be decent when they have the EPT main event there at the end of March?

I think they still play a lot of limit and spread limit stud in Germany.

Dealers choice games may include pot limit stud and stud 8.

You should be able to find PLO somnewhere in Europe.

I don't think they have poker in Monte Carlo. In a lot of continental Europe, there is not a lot of poker, and the rake tends to be high.

They might have some poker during the EPT event but I'm not sure - you might get more info through the Brick and Mortar forum.

I can comment on the London scene though: The Grosvenor Victoria casino spreads pot limit holdem and pot limit omaha, and the games are usually hilariously loose. If there's enough interest they start some dealer's choice games which are the only chance to get some Stud play.

Then there are a few "poker clubs" of dubious legitimacy, with semi-amateur dealers and shady players that shoot angles all the time - I recommend you stay away from those if you come to London, and they spread no Stud anyway...
