Default ***Official*** OOT Death Pool thread

Original thread

No one responded to my last post in the linked thread, so I'll assume those rules are ok, but if you strongly object to any of them, they are not set in stone yet.

Here are the rules:

- Each person picks 10 famous people who they believe will expire in the next 3 months.

- You may not pick super-old half dead people such as Fidel Castro. You may not pick leaders of hostile 3rd world countries who die every other week in bloody government takeovers.

- The competition will be based on a points system. Points are awarded by subtracting the dead person's age from 100. 10 bonus points will be awarded for achieving multiple deaths.

- The competition period will begin at midnight ET on December 15th, or 9PM PT on Dec 14th. Hopefully that will give us enough time to sort out any disagreements in rules or picks. It will end at the same time on March 15th 2007.

- The person with the most points wins. The winner will recieve $10 from each competitor.

If you wish to participate, reply to this thread with your 10 picks, please include their full names, occupations, and dates of birth.

If you see someone else make a pick that you believe should be off-limits, then you may object and a poll will be taken. The poll will decide if the pick will be allowed.

Any objections to the rules will also be put to a poll.

I will start things off with my 10 picks:

1. Robert C. Byrd. Occupation: Senator from West Virginia. Born: 11/20/1917.

2. Kate Moss. Occ: Supermodel. Born 1/16/1974.

3. Ozzy Osbourne. Occ: Singer. Born: 12/3/1948.

4. Andy Dick. Occ: Actor. Born: 12/21/1965.

5. O.J. Simpson. Occ: Retired football player, actor. Born: 7/9/1947

6. Nick Nolte. Occ: Actor. Born: 2/8/1941.

7. Rip Torn. Occ: Actor. Born: 2/6/1931.

8. Bob Barker. Occ: Game show host, actor. Born: 12/12/1923.

9. Amarillo Slim Preston. Occ: Poker player. Born: 12/31/1928.

10. John Daly. Occ: Golfer. Born: 4/28/1966.

So the rules aren't etched in stone I take it.

Death pools are very '90s, but lots of fun if done right. The only rule should be you must pick someone that is alive and they must die for you to get a point. This rewards research.

Deciding who is old and is on the verge of death will kill the pool. Also, it should be a calendar year and have an entry fee cause we all like to gamboooool.

O.J. is already dead on the inside. Also, how do you plan on making people pay up, honor system or some sort of escrow?

I think the honor system is fine. If someone doesn't pay up, they should be banned and assraped.

I thought there might be some objection to Byrd, so let's put it to a poll.

What's so hard about taking a poll?

A year? I don't think anyone would even remember this after a year. Maybe if we get enough interest and it lasts for 4 3-month periods, we can do an overall winner for the year. But for now, I think shorter time periods are better.

I'm fine with Byrd, but what about Bob Barker? That guy's a walking corpse, I literally had to check wikipedia because I was so sure he was already dead. Also, the honor system seems ok, but we need to find a big black guy to do the anal rockage.

You're fine with Byrd but NOT Barker? If you've seen Bryd make a speech in the senate, and seen Price is Right recently, it's very obvious who will die first, assuming they both die of natural causes.

Fine, I guess both of them are on the brink of death. Just curious, what makes you think that Andy Dick is more likely to die in the next several months than say someone like Nicole Ritchie?

I think its a fun idea, but it seems like it would make more sense to make this a thread to let people commit to the death pool, and have another in a week where everyone lists their choices. It would probably be better if they pm'd you the choices first as well.

I also see no reason to not have someone hold the money, the amount of time the winner will spend trying to get money from people that just forgot about it will be silly.

You want to take a poll on every marginal choice someone makes?

Not true. I've been in lots of death pools, including the original internet version here. As soon as someone famous dies the thread will get tons of play.

Someone holding the cash would be better. I wouldnt want to chase down someone that isnt around anymore for $20 bucks or whatever. The person who said the best way to start is to ask for entries and then get lists by email is right. I spent a week researching back when I was in them and no reason to do it and then give another player the info for free. I might be in if it is done right. Hope you work it out.

Tuco.
