Default Places to Stay in Atlantic City

My 3 friends and I are heading down to AC for the weekend of the 26th, the same weekend as the Borgata Winter Open Championship. We were planning on being at the borgata much of the time, since the tournament will be going on and the games and the clubs there will be very soft and hopping, respectively. None of us are playing any of the tournaments, just going down for the sights and sounds if you will. Anyway, 2 of my friends don't have a lot of money right now and do not want to play 400-500 a night for a room at the borgata. I wondered of anyone had any better prices for places in and around atlantic city for that weekend, a cheaper casino, a holiday inn, etc.. Thanks in advance.

Splitting 3 way for a Borg room isn't bad...

if that's too much...

go to the various hotel search engines and look at absecon or pleasantville. About 15 minute drive, you can get a room for $100/night on weekend. Read reviews; some of the hotels are a dump and aren't worth the $39/night rate.

As stated, check out abescon. Whatever you do, do NOT go for the cheapest motels/hotels, you will be sorry (infested with bugs, drugs, violence, etc).

As someone mentioned, splitting the rooms 3 or 4 ways isn't that bad. Additionally, you should be able to get the poker rate that weekend (see their website). As advertised, you only get it if you play in one of the events, but I stayed there during the WPT events last September and got the same rate for cash game play only (2/5 NL). I called the front desk and they set it up in 2 minutes over the phone with the poker room.

How much was the poker rate on the weekend? And you had history of playing 2/5 NL? I only ask because the Borg is sooo inconsistent with these.

I think its $100/night Sun-Thurs, $170/night Friday, and $200/Saturday. I had no playing history at the Borgata when I went in September but I still got the rate and was told over the phone before arriving that I wouldn't need any tournament receipts to get the rate.
