Not very subtle hint that Neteller is getting ready to bolt the US
My original Neteller account used a US address. I later logged on from overseas. (This is just background, Neteller had no issue and their customer service walked thru it with me.)
Today, I got an email which directly references tracking IP addresses in the context of the UIGE Act: "Due to this event [referring to different IP addresses]and in fulfillment with the current legislation, we have updated our computer systems to offer greater security to our clients, thus we will need you to access your account and verify it's recent activity" I have not accessed Neteller, except from overseas, recently. Previously, I accessed it only from US IPs. This definitely sounds like Neteller is getting ready to cut off US IP access. (On the other hand, it could be someone phishing.) |

Re: Not very subtle hint that Neteller is getting ready to bolt the US
The optimistic view is that Neteller is tracking IPs as a way of saying to the government that they can identify violators of the internet gaming act if asked to do so, and that there is no need for US ISPs to block Neteller.

Re: Not very subtle hint that Neteller is getting ready to bolt the US
Neteller has always employed IP address validation. I had a buddy who had a US account. He moved to overseas and tried to login and they closed his account as a anti-fraud measure.

Re: Not very subtle hint that Neteller is getting ready to bolt the US
I think the subtle hint already came when they said they'd be compiling with the US regulations. The clocks been ticking ever since.
I think Neteller's exit will be a serious, if temporary, bummer for all online players. I'd been on Firepay only, until October. I decided I wouldn't sign up for Neteller since they said they'd be gone in under 270 days. So, I signed up for ePassporte. Took over 2 weeks to move funds into my account. Granted, now that I'm signed up, I hope it'll be smooth sailing...but I not looking forward to the 1st few months of play after Neteller exits. |

Re: Not very subtle hint that Neteller is getting ready to bolt the US
Hopefully this isn't a subtle hint by neteller, but I guess you never know.
I also have a US based neteller account. When I have traveled outside the US (pre-legislation) and tried to access my neteller account from a non-US IP, neteller has never allowed me access the account without calling them first. They even locked my account once because I didn't tell them that I was going to access my account from a non-US IP. Talk about big brother. Anyway, all I am saying is that their email explanation may be new, but their practice of requiring a "security check" has always been a standard procedure even pre-legislation |

No, I will simply wait and see if the account is locked. (I have used it twice in the last 5 years.)
