Eragon - the Book
I just started reading this book yesterday. Although the story is pretty good, the writing is very simple, kind of like it was written by a teenager (which of course, it was).
I am being too harsh on the kid by expecting it to be better written? Or should I just enjoy the story? |

Re: Eragon - the Book
Is this meant for adults? My son, who just turned 12 and read it last year, loved it.

Re: Eragon - the Book
I just finished rereading it. (I was actually going to start a thread about it.) I think it's excellent.
As for the simple righting, I'm not sure why you would think that's a bad thing. Honestly, the only real flaw I see in the writing is a tendency to use fancy words to show off. It's a fantasy novel, it's supposed to be plot- and character-driven. Consider what happens to the Robert Jordans and the George R.R. Martins of the world, and be grateful for a clearly-written, interesting, direct three-book fantasy series. |

Re: Eragon - the Book
Very, very good. My only problem with it is that he stole nearly 100% of his charachters/plot themes from Jordan/Lackey/Goodkind etc.
Still, have read both, and will see the movie and read the 3rd. Plus, hes no older than I am, so hella props. |

Re: Eragon - the Book
There's simple writing and then there's simple writing. J.K. Rowling, in my opinion, is a fantastic writer and storyteller. Christopher Paolini, on the other hand, just doesn't have the same fluidity. The first scene in Eragon made me cringe multiple times. If I wasn't such a damned sucker for dragons and the like, I wouldn't have continued to read his stuff. Especially once I realized it was just a ripoff of Star Wars.
