Default DVD Player!

I just picked up a DVD player that has a USB port on the front of it. I plugged my GF's external HD into it and was able to play all the files on it. Good stuff! I'm very pleased with the purchase.

Yeah, it's random as hell...I was just so pleased that I had to share with someone. The tech guy in the office who would totally appreciate it is sick today....so I share with all of you.

It's a Phillips 5960 I believe.

This sounds too good to be true. I need more details about this. How does the dvd player search the hard drive? What file formats does it support? I'm very intrigued.

What a horrible post. No mention of model, price, where you got it, nothing. Jesus.

So sorry...this wasn't to promote the DVD player. I hate giving free pub to people.

It played .Avi .mpg no problem. I've yet to try .wmv. After you plug it in you get a little file menu that allows you to navigate the files.

The model is a DVP5960 made by phillips. I got for 70 bucks from Circuit City but I've heard that they go on sale for 50 occasionally.

Some cons about the player are that some of the files don't have the right aspect ratio (or something). So it's impossible to read the subtitles on it. It cuts off about 1 inch all the way around the edges. Also, navigating the files is a little harder because only 8-12 letters of each file gets displayed.

On the flip side to that you can zoom in or out to see the whole picture. Even with the 8-12 letters if you know what's on your HD it's not too hard to figure out.
