Social security, birth certificate, ID problem
A friend of mine (chick) doesnt have a birth certificate or a social security card. She's american, born in new orleans and now lives in Dallas.
It's not her fault she doesnt have the social and BC- she's 22 and it wasn't her fault they got lost. i'd like to help her get these things, but where do you start? She has no ID to speak of. It's all legit, and everything checks out, so I know she can get this documentation, but she doesnt know where to start. Can anyone help? Since she was born in New Orleans i'm thinking the original might be [censored] after the hurricane and the loss of the city. thanks. -Tex |

Re: Social security, birth certificate, ID problem
i used to deal with kids who had no real documentation when i was working in residential treatment. typically the first thing you need to get is a birth certificate; from there the SS card is easier and she'll be good.
first step is to search for the records of her birth. those should be protected - with their age they were probably locked away in a fireproof cabinet somewhere and are retrievable. those'll have her fingerprints, it should be easy to verify her identity from there. |

Re: Social security, birth certificate, ID problem
The hospital or county government where she was born might have the BC on file. The Socialist Security office might have a procedure to issue a new card, it'll be hard with no drivers' license or other ID though. She should know her SS# though right? That'll help.

Re: Social security, birth certificate, ID problem
I would call a local government center and go from there.

Re: Social security, birth certificate, ID problem
I would guess FEMA has dealt with this thousands of times in the last year.
