Worst loss in the history of sports?
It's only a high school football game, but it's too good to not share. And I know it's kind of long. But it's really amazing.
Don Markham is a high school football legend in Southern California. He's been a coach for 35 years, has won more than 300 games and five section titles. His team once scored 108 points in a game and a then-national record 880 in a season. He's known, and hated by many, for running up the score whenever he can. Two weeks ago in the first round of the playoffs, his Bloomington team was winning 46-13 midway through the fourth quarter when he sent out the first-team offense to score again. Then add a 2-point conversion. He finally put in the JV offense on the last possession, and threw the ball on the final play of the game with a 54-13 lead. This past weekend, his team played La Quinta in the quarterfinals. They led 24-17 with the ball on La Quinta's 3-yard line and 1:36 to play, with La Quinta out of time outs. But instead of kneeling on it three times and advancing to the semifinals, they punched it in. And went for 2, which failed. La Quinta took over on their 26 with 33.6 seconds to play and scored four plays later. They recovered the onside kick, and threw a 48-yard TD on the next play to win, 31-30. |
