Okay so sometimes I just like calling raises with aces pre flop because when a person re raises, I feel you're basically flipping two of your cards up and telling people that you have aces. Thoughts on all streets please. I just called flop to make it look like I was drawing, but also to make sure that a scare card didn't come before I really beefed the pot up. I feel that there was no way villain could put me on said hand but I know it's dangerous to play like this. Please any input will help!!!

You played this hand well. What's the question?

So long as you really are "mixing up your play" this is OK. If you are doing it because everyone knows you have AA if you reraise preflop, or to see a "safe card" on 4th before risking a lot of money, then you are doing something wrong.

After the hand, I got chastized by the guy for "playing it terrible" and since i dont play omaha that often I was wondering how you woulda played the flop in particular. With straight draws and two hearts, would you smooth call or give away the strength of your hand right away and raise? He ended up having nut flush draw so I don't know if I made the right decision to let him draw for free.

Given stack sizes, I think this play is fine. When you say he had nut flush draw, what did he call the river with?

Well since he's repping aces and must have hit a strongish hand on the river to call your push, the worst thing that could possibly happen is that you pay him off a bit if he makes his flush on the turn or river and you don't fill.
The only real issue is if your opponent would have stacked off regardless of whether you raised the flop or not. If that's the case then smoothcalling is FPS and should be avoided. If letting him take that 1/5 shot of hitting his flush gets you his stack then certainly it is a play to be considered but not overused. If it's 3 handed or more you should probably not be smoothcalling. |
