PS $5 HU (10 hands). Second nuts and villain check-raises me. :)
Not an incredibly interesting hand history. My question is mostly about the last hand. What's your action on the turn after he check-raises? Do you just shove or call and hope no heart falls off, then shove over his river bet? Ignoring river action in your decision would probably be best.
I think I should've raised 44 from the BB as well. I feel I'm generally too tight OOP. Not sure if that's possible, but seriously: so far I'm 79/39 in position and 16/11 OOP. I think I'd get owned by good opponents. ******* Hand 1 ******** Poker Stars No Limit Holdem Tournament Blinds: t10/t20 2 players Converter Stack sizes: SB: t1500 Hero: t1500 Pre-flop: (2 players) Hero is BB with 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] SB raises to t60, Hero folds. Re: PS $5 HU (10 hands). Second nuts and villain check-raises me. :)
I'm usually shoving the turn on hand 10, but your line is OK too.
I think it's better to be too tight OOP than too loose, but my stats are definately looser than that. Stick the flop C/R into your OOP game, as well as the OOP float. Also, checking the turn with a wide range of hands after I've led the flop (bluff or value) helps me control the pot size and extract a LOT of bluffs when I have hands like middle pair. Again, though, better to be too tight than too loose OOP. |

Re: PS $5 HU (10 hands). Second nuts and villain check-raises me. :)
The only reason (and sometimes it's a great play) to smooth call his raise on the turn is to try and induce a bluff on the river and call his bet regardless of what comes. If you weren't going to call this river bet, you should have pushed on the turn. Only hands you're worried about are Ah2x and Ah9x, assuming he reraises with AK preflop and doesn't call the flop with A high only. If he had the nuts on the turn, he played it really badly. I would call here.

Re: PS $5 HU (10 hands). Second nuts and villain check-raises me. :)
OOP float: check-call flop, lead turn? Or check-call flop, check-check turn, lead river? check-call, check-raise turn?
Lee, I shoved river myself, FWIW, hoping he'd look me up with a high heart. He actually called with 72 (sooooted). The one time I tried a flop check-raise went like this. Button raises 3xBB, I smoothcall with QJs. Flop comes K99, two hearts. I check-raise about 3x his bet, thinking this flop should have missed him a lot. I get called by A5o. |

IMO C/Ring light and floating OOP is NOT a good idea against players who will call you light (90% of $5 players).

Re: PS $5 HU (10 hands). Second nuts and villain check-raises me. :)
OK, so we're thinking is the same. Obviously since he called you with ace high no kicker with a CR on the flop, the semi-bluff CR on the flop probably isn't the way to go. In the case of this hand against this guy, I play it the same exact way you did.
He must've been pissed. I hate when my 72 suited gets cracked. Lee |
