Default Driving stick in dress shoes

I find that I'm always afraid to crease my shoes when I'm driving stick with dress shoes. I usually wear like, black k-swisses which are really nice to drive with. Does anyone else plant their foot on the carpet to use the clutch or do they kinda float it?
