Help me choose my classes for next year.
Okay, I will be a senior in high school next year. Just recently we received the papers to pick our classes for the next year. The classes I am required to take are: English, Spanish, Religion, and World History. I will then have 3 empty periods, which I can fill with: three electives, one elective, Pre-Calc, and Physics, or two electives and either Pre-Calc or Physics.
So, OOT, what should I do? Go for the easy year, and only take the four required classes, plus three electives? Or should I give myself a tougher schedule, with only one or two electives? For the record, I don't get good grades anyways, so having 4 "real" classes would be very helpful to me, because I would have a study hall, which would give me time to do homework, etc. On the other hand, having a fuller schedule would probably look better on my transcript. |

no one can answer this question even close to properly until you tell us about the college situation

You're in HS? Most colleges don't check senior grades anyway, and if they do it's just to see that you passed. Get an early start on college.

Take a music theory class or a music history class if your school offers them. Always easy and good stuff to know.

Re: Help me choose my classes for next year.
In my opinion the point of college is to understand and take in knowledge. Therefore out of the two options I put good grades. Though I know many of my friends get good college grades but are going to be robots/dolts coming out of college.
I think taking the adv. classes is pretty much standard here barring certain exceptions. I dont know, it is situationally dependent I guess... |

Re: Help me choose my classes for next year.
One of the electives I would take is Music Appreciation (I & II, actually, that would fill up a period for the entire year).
About college-I have no idea where I want to go, of if I even want to go at all. I will probably end up going, for no reason other than the fact that not going to college makes it hard to get a good job(or so I have been told for the last 3 years or so) If I DO go to college, I'm probably looking at University of Cincinnati, or something close with low admission requirements(because of my poor grades) FWIW, I test very vell, so SAT and/or ACT scores aren't really a big factor. |

Re: Help me choose my classes for next year.
Depending on what the state laws are set as, you can take a full year at a community college, and as long as you get a good GPA all your credits will transfer to a university. You should have a long list of schools you want to go do. You do know which ones will say yes and which one will say denied. Apply to many schools as possible and try to visit as many as possible. Also for college applications try to add groups you were in. Student Council is a easy thing to go and a good highlight on your college apps. I had a relaxed schedule my senior year. Your grades will matter when trying to get accepted into the college you want, so the classes will matter.

No study hall or off periods? I'm taking like three of those next year.

Do you like math and/or physics? If so, take those. If not, don't.
