Villian ($300+) is like 21/17/4.5 and suspected 2p2er. Weve tangled some but havent really shown down anything too memorable.
Hero ($300) is 25/18/3 Hero has 3h3c PF: Hero raises to 7, folds, villian in SB raises to 26, fold, hero calls FLOP ($54): Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Villian bets 45, hero calls TURN ($145): K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] villian thinks and checks, check RIVER ($145): 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] villian checks, hero looks for a correct bet size Also, raise flop, bet turn? This hand sucks on my part but I think the turn card killed a lot of potential action as Im pretty sure he has AA here a ton. |

Are you always calling there preflop? Or just because of the 150bb stacks?

His raise is pretty large but having 150bb makes this a call.
I dont think this is always a raise on the flop. If hes going to stack off with AA/KK then he gets to further commit himself on the turn |

I think it's okay sometimes to smooth-call a set on the flop against a TAG who's not gonna stack off light, but on a flop this drawy I think you really need to raise.
Anyway, I would just make a normal-ish bet on the river, like 100 or so. Against a weaker opponent I might overbet shove, expecting them to pay me off with a flush, but this guy probably won't fall for that. |

Raise flop (to about 3-4 times his bet) - he looks to have a big PP and will likely shut down on an awful lot of turns (any spade, any broadway that doesn't give him a set) - ie like the one you got.
Check behind on turn is not great - it's looks a lot like a flush given the flat call on the flop. He's unlikely to have a made flush but he could have As, or at least a gutshot to the nut straight so giving a free card isn't great here either. A smallish bet that could be a bluff or AsQx would probably work better. River is villain dependent - if he was any good, I'd probably go for slightly less than half pot in the hope of getting a crying call. |

i dont think raising the flop is all that good. [/ QUOTE ] So wait, in a vacuum, do you think raising the flop here most of the time is not optimal? I'm seriously confused, but then again, I bluff alot and have a superhigh flop aggro, so I guess it's only natural that I raise with my made hands on the flop like 99% of the time. |

I think raising the flop is compulsory.
Given the raise out of the blinds he's way more likely to have a high PP than a strong A - and given the flop it's AA/KK twice as often as it is QQ/JJ. A flop raise does not scream set/flush draw anything like as much as a flat call and a check behind on this turn does. KK/AA is very likely to 3-bet AI on the flop given the board texture, and very likely to give up on this turn (and many others like it). There are 9 spades, 3 Js, 3 Qs and either 4 Ts or 4 As = 19 cards on the turn which kill your action. |

i dont think raising the flop is all that good. [/ QUOTE ] To me this looks like the perfect flop to raise. We hit our perfect flop and want to get the money in. Is your reasoning that QQ and JJ are a large part of his range? |
