I hate the flop raise and cap. If you wanted to represent a big hand, wait and raise the turn. You say he's capable of popping anything, but what makes you think A-high is that far ahead? You have no diamonds, no straight draws, and no pair. If he's as wild as you say, you don't have fold equity either.

I'd check the river through too. You have a hand with decent showdown value, but he's never folding a better hand with that defensive check out of position. He'll call with a Q or any diamond of course.

If this guy has absolute no standards for betting and raising, your cap on the flop is still a losing play.

Hand 1: 48.2512 % 47.36% 00.89% { Ah9s }
Hand 2: 51.7488 % 50.86% 00.89% { random }

I'd check-call, probably checkraise the turn (bet-call is close too), and check-call the river.

Hero is in position, Rob.

But thanks for the Stove -- it backs up my theory that Hero can't be very far ahead if at all.

your question pertained to the river, and frankly there's no way for us to answer without the heads up read that you had. it could very well have been clear value, and i'm leaning that way. but heads up, a double check on the big streets could've been set up for something on previous hands or setting you up for something later.

If he's a complete lunatic, then just call him down or raise if you pair. Jamming the pot after the flop with ace high is pretty terrible.

I'd just check behind on the river. Generally a player who is a maniac doesn't like to fold hands, so I wouldn't bluff here. Just show the hand down.

there is a HU forum. but anyways like the others said, the flop play is terrible. if he is as wild as u say your best line of defense is to just call all the way down and raise if you pair.

Also, capping preflop makes much more sense than capping the flop.
