So what now with the Internet Poker?
So now that Celebrity Internet Poker Players like KaneKungFu who used to kill $50/100 HU NL are grinding it out at $5/10 NL, what becomes of the Internet Poker Pro? Does he cease to exist as a cultural phenomenon? DavidRoss is another high-flyer who has recently crashed to Earth. He went from playing $15/30 limit to $1/2 NL.
Here's what I think these events portend: First, the mid-level games ($10/20 NL thru $25/$50 NL and $15/30 limit thru $30/60 limit) dry up and there simply become very few games left available at those limits. This is basically already happening. Next, the former sharks at the mid-levels move down to the low limits ($2/4 NL thru $5/10 NL and $3/6 limit thru $10/20 limit). The mid-limit sharks slowly clean out the low-limit grinders. Since the low-limit grinders were playing for money and not as a form of recreation, those guys basically disappear. This leads to fewer and fewer tables available at the low limits. Eventually, the whole system collapses in on itself and we start to see either (a) consolidation amongst the Internt poker sites or (b) the poker sites just go out of business. I think this is the beginning of the end for Internet Poker. There is no doubt in my mind that I-poker has jumped the shark. What say you? |

Re: So what now with the Internet Poker?
afaik 2 poker sites have closed in the last 2 months.
Goal Poker and JetSetPoker. Dear Valued JetSetPoker Customer: We deeply regret to convey that we shall be discontinuing service at JetSetPoker (the "Site") effective 3:00 AM EST on Friday, October 13, 2006. Initially, and as per our previous statement, we were cautiously optimistic in maintaining operations for our membership after the passage of the "SAFE Port Act HR 4954" on September 30, 2006 by the U.S. Senate. We nonetheless initially believed it to be practicable. However, given the developments during the preceding week, including but not limited to, the unfavorable view of payment processors and financial institutions regarding online gambling and the extensive advice of our legal counsel, we have been instructed to cease activities and comply with this prohibitionist legislation. We were fortunate to have a first-rate membership and it was our pleasure to provide a destination site where members were able to enjoy their favorite card games and tournaments with the surety that we were to buttress the integrity of the forum. In this inclement environment however we believe our ability to do so may become impaired nor do we anticipate this matter to improve in the near future. We once again thank you for your patronage of JetSetPoker and deeply regret these unfortunate circumstances that have materially and adversely impacted both the Site and the industry. Best regards, JetSetPoker Management Team |
