Hero checks, UTG bets $10, Hero calls $10.

Final Pot: $70.50

Turn seemed like a pretty good card to second barrel. I had seem villain showdown a few bluffs this session so I decided to use my hand as a spade catcher on the river. Thoughts?

Do nonpaired spades ever fire for 1/5 of the pot there?

Yeh, I hate the call on the river. I have delusions that I am Allen Cunningham sometimes. I think the second barrel is damn sexy though.

Yeah, second barrel is obviously fine. You have far too many outs to fold and checking isn't great.

Lol, I felt such a knob calling a set of Tens with A-high. Owned.

For the sake of argument, I'm going to dissent and say I'm not wild about the second barrel. The pot is alreay sooo bloated. I'd like it a lot better if your pre-flop raise left you some room to maneuver. Villian has called a couple of large bets and seems interested in hanging around. Are there enough hands he folds vs what you've represented? It seems 90% of the time that big pre-flop raise comes from AQs, AK, QQ+ and calls come from pocket pairs and suited connectors that pretty quickly fit or fold. You've already defined yourself pretty well. His flop call seems to imply fit. 2 pair doesn't make any sense. He can't have the nut flush draw. JT might make some sense, sort of and might fold. JJ might call then fold. Maybe distrustful 99. Suited Broadway hands just picked up bigger draws or paired to improve somewhat. I'm thinking his hand is big enough to call another bet. If I'm sitting on something big, I'm not giving you credit for hitting top set and not giving me a more callable bet. You've built a huge pot that is going to produce a river bet that seems to give you odds that you can't pass up to call with a crappy A high hand.

Even worse, what do you do if he calls and you improve? Barring the 3 non-spade Jacks what is your move? Are you going to be able to lay down TPTK if he sticks in his last $30?

I like the whole situation a lot better if the pot is such that the second barrel is $8ish (fewer limpers, smaller pfr, less defined hand).

I think the second barrel is pretty damn standard. I prefer double barreling in smaller pots so nothing get's out of control and I'm not looking at a $50 pot on the river with nothing to show for it.

I think the river call is terrible...what are you beating that he wouldn't fold to a raise? Re-popping him on the river is better than hoping you'll win a showdown against no pair & busted spades.

I'm not a big fan of the 2nd barrel. It just doesn't seem like you have much FE, and it seems very likely that you're drawing.
