My roommates and I are putting a band together. We have a guitarist, bass player, pianist, and our singer who can play piano/guitar/banjo. Unfortunately we don't have any drums yet, but we're not worried about it. We're looking mostly to jam and have a good time and play some music.
So musicians of OOT, my question is what songs would you recommend? Pretty much any style/genre is ok, especially with itunes and tab sites. ![]() |

BIG POPS: Vital questions:
How old are you all? Where do you live? How soon can you get a drummer? My buddy and I just started a fashion rock band based on the awesome band teh Deathset but that's a really bad idea becuase we are old and not hip. ROCK OUT W/C*CK OUT! --GA |

Well, important question: what music do you like?
I play in a covers band that mostly does pubs, we usually do a two hour set in exchange for moolah. But it's great fun two. The fact you have a pianist is great. Depending on your singer's range you could do some beach boys songs, which are mega fun to play, and maybe some motown/soul e.g. I Want You Back. Beatles songs is another possibility. Its also fun to do different arrangements of classic, or cheesy songs. Hey Ya would be a fun song to do. |

our singer is awesomely talented, and in general just an all around great musician, so that's not a problem.
if we can get a drum set cheaply one of us used to play drums, so we can get that covered. Jaffa, what are some of your favorite covers? they don't have to be super complicated songs, just stuff that is fun to play and sounds good without too much work. |

Well my band is a 3 piece (bass, guitar, drums, and me and the guitarist do vocals), we're also only 19 so generally play indy type stuff.
Here's the setlist from our last gig, excluding original compositions. The ones with stars by them are, in my opinion, the most fun to play. Roadhouse Blues - The Doors Matinee - Franz Ferdinand Spitting Games - Snow Patrol Can’t Explain - The Who The Great Escape - We Are Scientists People Are Strange - The Doors* The Importance Of Being Idle - Oasis Dani California - The Red Hot Chili Peppers Summertime Blues - (we do the Who's version) You Really Got Me - The Kinks Hundred Mile High City - Ocean Colour Scene Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand* SOS - Abba* Stumble and Fall - Razorlight Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division Can’t Buy Me Love - The Beatles Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix* Song 2 - Blur I Get Around - The Beach Boys* Hit Me Baby One More Time - Britney Spears London Calling - The Clash* Turning Japanese - The Vapors* I Predict A Riot - Kaiser Chiefs* I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor - The Arctic Monkeys* What You Waiting For - Gwen Stefani* Teenage Kicks - The Undertones None of them need that much work, but some definitely need two vocals, and ones such as Hit Me Baby One More Time need a bit of alternative arrangement beforehand. |

jaffa,
that looks like a pretty sweet list, and interestingly enough would be great for the 4 of us to play, since it pretty much covers favorite songs of all of us. |

We took the folksy Travis cover of the song and turned into something much more funk. At most places we play it completely brings the house down. |
