Starting a regular poker game
Alright, dont be sissies, first person that I hear say,"but youll get arrested!!"...just shutup. This is all theory, I have no plans on doing this.
Now, down to the meat and potatos, the bill has passed, there are going to be a lot of people looking for a game, anyone have any experience running an "illegal" poker room? How would you get one started? Rent a hotel room? etc? |

The biggest problem for most of these types of places is the parking. They are often sharing lots with other businesses and all the traffic looks very "druggy" and draws attention. |

Re: Starting a regular poker game
how often do you expect to stay open per week?
There was a place nearby that spread $300NL and 5/10 limit like 4 times a week, plus tourneys once a month. They just did it at their house, but it rather nice, and in the middle of the country, so there were no problems w/ parking or people noticing. |

Re: Starting a regular poker game
If you coudl find a good spot, and had enough regular players, I think the idea would be to stay open as much as possible. Maybe start off with 1 or 2 games per week, than as more people start playing, run more games.

Re: Starting a regular poker game
I have done this for an extended period of time. Make PARKING a top priority. Unless you are in the middle of a large metropolis, it's going to look suspicious when 20 vehicles are parked outside your poker room at 3 a.m.
Security is another big issue. A local game was recently raided by three masked men with Uzi's. They made off with over $10,000. Be smart about what you're doing and you can make some good money. |

Re: Starting a regular poker game
Something Ive also thought of. Local neighboorhood bookies, who get big, sometimes farm out all the hard work to costa rica, its called pph (pay per head). The clients get an 800 number to call, or they can bet online, the data processor down in costa rica, writes, and records all the action, the bookie gets a list of who is owed money, and who owes him money, and everyone pays in cash, like a normal bookie. What would be the legality of starting up soemthing like this? You have an online poker room, where the chips have no monetary value as far as banks are concerned, they are just marks on a paper. At the end of the week, or when someone wants to cashout, you meed up with an "agent" that pays you in cash, and deducts the amount from your account. Your agent receives all the rake.

if you were going to do a room i would suggest hiring a "driver". to avoid having like 30 cars parked outside late at night, have people park in grocery store lots etc. Then have your driver go and pcik them up and drive them.
