Red Wine & Poker. Good for Your Game?
I've seen a lot of guys drink specifically red wine while at the tables (B&M, myself included) and I wondered, does drinking red wine help your game?
I feel like the reasons one drinks red wine at the table are quite different than Joe in seat 2 with a Crown & Coke and Bob in seat 3 with a Coors. Do you feel like it gives you a competitive edge, or is it simply your alcoholic beverage of choice? I've also noticed it's more common the mid-higher limit games. So why do you drink it at the tables? |

My guess is that they are older and sedentary, and they hope drinking wine will keep them from having a heart attack, especially at the table.

Re: Red Wine & Poker. Good for Your Game?
My parents are even older than I, and they've both been advised by their cardiologists to drink a glass of red wine each day. At live poker and in really any casino gaming, you are going to notice a large number of older people who need to take care of their hearts. It's always bad for your game if you die on the spot and have to be carried out by ambulance.
I do not drink my glass of red wine at the table for two reasons -- the red wine served on the floor is not of such good quality as the wine served in the restaurant and I believe the glass of wine should be drunk with a meal anyway. But to each his own. I suspect even the most vile poker room house wine is better for the heart than my Scotch on the rocks. But what my doctor doesn't know won't hurt him. |

You're seriously asking if a specific drink makes you better at poker? Is that what's going on here?

Re: Red Wine & Poker. Good for Your Game?
Paxosmotic, stupid as the question sounds, there was a theory put forward in the 1990s that red wine provided some protection against Alzheimer's disease. So, maybe, red wine is a little better for the brain than other adult beverages. Something about the malic acid. I dunno. So it probably isn't a totally idiotic question, although it may be more of an urban legend than proven science at this point. And I'm sure most 2plus2 posters are way too young to worry about Alzheimer's slowing them down anyway.

[/ QUOTE ] Not better at poker, but affects your mind in a way that allows you to play better poker. I've asked a few people and they've given me answers, but I wanted to hear the pure responses before I put them in this thread. |
