Default India - Upcoming Business Trip

Found out today that I'll be headed to Mumbai next month. I am the whitest American in the world. I will stand out.

Should I be concerned about security? I don't want to end up on Al-Jazeera with my head cut off, but I don't want to overreact either. Maybe I'll ask if the firm will provide bodyguards or something. This is mainly because it would be cool to have bodyguards, not that I think my firm would cover it.

I think you're a little hasty with your Al-Jazeera reference. Obviously you should be careful when travelling to any third world nation (although I don't think all of india qualifies as third world) but India /= Middle East.

So are you recruiting engineers or customer support?

What sort of difficulty are you expecting? It's Bombay man not Riyadh.

Watch a Bollywood movie.

In other words, I don't know.

India has very well-defined class distinctions and a caste system. I assume the Mumbai end will handle the details.

I kind of doubt that our intrepid friend will fall prey to the caste system.

Yeah, I know Mumbai is acutally a bustling metropolis, but there have been some unsettling attacks there recently. My OP is partly tongue in cheek, but I do have security concerns and I've never been to that part of the world. I love the food though.

My firm has a partner there. We're co-developing a medical imaging system. The two companies agreed to share the travel burden. Guess I drew the short straw.

You realize that India is over 80% Hindu, right? And that Hindu is not the same as Muslim. And that India is one the most culturally and physically diverse and beautiful countries in the world.

I never would've guessed. Ethnocentrism is an ugly thing.
