limit vs NL, a variance poll
Every time a limit player has an X BB downswing, a NL player has a Y buy-in downswing.

Re: limit vs NL, a variance poll
Swings are not variance.
Variance. Variance is a statistic that can be computed given a significant sample size. "Swings" is not a statistic that can be computed, but given enough anecdotal information, you might be able to reach some generalities. Evidence I have seen indicates that variance is more a function of the game structure, while swings are more a result of individual style. So variance should be relatively stable for a wide range of players, while "swings" could vary greatly depending on whether you were talking about poor, average, good, or expert players. That said, I can't make any sense out of what you are asking in your poll. |

Re: limit vs NL, a variance poll
We need responses from those who play both NL and limit since they know what it's like to swing both ways.

Re: limit vs NL, a variance poll
I don't see what people are finding so confusing about the poll or what unreasonable assumptions it makes. If you play both limit and NL, you should be able to fill in X in the following statement: "I have an X buyin downswing at NL about as often as I have a 100 BB downswing in limit". The poll is asking you what X is.

Re: limit vs NL, a variance poll
I understand the poll fine actually.
and I'll be a little interested to view the results from those with experience swinging both ways. I've only started to play NL in the past couple of weeks so don't have enough 'swinging-both-ways' experience (yet) to contribute to the polls. |

Re: limit vs NL, a variance poll
to that end, it would have been nice to be able to just 'view-results' without having to participate in the poll.
I hate skewing results in polls in which I don't feel qualified to respond. |

Re: limit vs NL, a variance poll
Why so many choices? Wouldn't it just be a ratio?
i.e 1 buy-in for every 100BB? |

A reasonable, but unstated, assumption is that the games are in some way comparable in 'size'. I play NL $25. It isn't the same size as my limit game ($2/4). The best way to compare games isn't obvious. |
