Default WSOP PPV Final Table commentary w/ Jesus.........

Anyone else catch where Chris Ferguson mentioned he was not familiar with the term, 'folding equity'?

For those that didn't watch it, in a response to whether Ferguson thought that there was more folding equity with a larger bet in a certain situation, Chris replied that he 'wasn't familiar with that term' when asked again he said the same thing.

Does anyone else find it strange that a player like Chris Ferguson is unfamiliar with a concept like folding equity?
I am assuming hjust has never heard the concepts described as FE, but is obv using them in his play whether he realizes it or not

comments....?

mods:wasn't sure if this belonged in NVG or somewhere else, pls move accordingly

Slightly surprising, especially from a player as intellectual and well-read as Ferguson, but I'm sure he's familiar with the concept. There's nothing magical about using 2+2 terminology that wins at the table.

Obviously he understands fold equity but does not use the same term. A C-bet works because of fold equity.

Chris would know the term, but unfortunately someone printed a Full Tilt logo over the relevant section in the book.

He obviously knows about it inately, but yes it was strange he hadn't heard the term fold equity or just wasn't very familar with it. One would assume at some point in discussing strategy someone would be using it when asking Ferguson for adivce on a push.

When I heard this too I instaposted on 2p2 along with many others but now that I think about it the question may have been worded strangely and in a very broad sense. If he was asked a more specific situation Jesus would have been able to decipher the term and speak on it.

I often wonder if we don't sometimes over complicate the game with terms and mathematical theories? Not saying they aren't legit and practical. I just wonder if these pros don't rely more on their skills of reading other players and the situation, rather than applying mathematical concepts to everything? Doyle Brunson, Johnny Moss and Amarillo Slim most likey had never heard of folding equity by the time they had made their fist million.

Either way with Chris's math background, this is a little suprising.

Just thinking outloud, please don't flame me.
