Any advice for first timer DVD distribution deal?
My best friend and I throw an annual dance competition that has grown to be one of the premier hip-hop dance show/competitions in California. We have a professionally produced DVD of the event thanks to friends in the business and were planning on just setting up a modest website so our audience can buy it.
However, at our competition a man was present who produced the 1980's movie "Breakin" which sold over 3 million copies worldwide. So he has had some success with marketing underground dance products to the mainstream, and he thinks the timing is right to get our event into the spot light. Long story short he was very impressed with the atmosphere, calibur of dancers, and organization of our event and DVD and is insisting that with his help we try to get a mass distribution deal. Obviously he wants a cut if he gets us a deal, and rightfully so. He also is pushing the idea that we show our DVD to potential sponsors and try to get a nationwide 10 city tour sponsored, which in return we will produce more DVDs, and our sponsor be recognized as a main sponsor when the dance gains more exposure and popularity. Sorry if this is this is a kind of isolated situation I'm asking for help on, but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks |
