Default Guy sits down, posts, bet/3bets me preflop. I fold QQ

Standard? The guy just sat down, as you can see, so I had no read.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

MP ($100)
Hero ($167.35)
Button ($27.30)
SB ($96.95)
BB ($70.85)
UTG ($127.85)

Preflop: Hero is CO with Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. MP posts a blind of $1.
UTG calls $1, <font color="#CC3333">MP (poster) raises to $5</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $12</font>, <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, UTG folds, <font color="#CC3333">MP raises to $41</font>, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $55.50

Have you thought that he takes advantage of pros thinking "This guy just sat down, I know nothing about him so I can only play with KK or AA pre-flop with big pre-flop action."

Fold is standard, but reraise should be more in the neighborhood of $18-20.

Isn't raising that much only going to get calls when I'm crushed or coinflipp'd?

Or is that the point... that we take it down right there so often?

18 is about a pot sized raise...

So? It looks big, I think it will fold hands that I want to call.

sure man. keep making these fishy minraises so that you can disguise your hand even more and get them to make bigger postflop mistakes in smaller pots.

I'm not saying I'm right, but saying that $18 is correct because "it's a pot-sized raise" is meaningless.

Who cares if it's a pot-sized raise? It sounds good, but if you play that rigidly, you're not going to maximize your profits.

Open limping, min-raising, etc... these things can be correct. I think this forum is too rigid.

Back to the hand: Don't you agree that if I raise all-in, I will only be getting calls from hands like AA, KK or AK? So there must be some place to draw the line. It seemed to me at the time that making it $18-ish to go would fold a large chunk of the hands that I wanted him to call with.

I know there's no definitive answer.
