Playing 2 pair against both extremes (pty 2/4)
Sb had played very tight and nitty (17/11/2.6 over this session) while button had been a loose passive showdown monkey (74/5/0.5 wtsd 55%) who was calling down with any piece.

Re: Playing 2 pair against both extremes (pty 2/4)
Against tightie, you're looking at basically 5 hands: AA-QQ, AK, AQ (less probable, but with a 2.6 AF it's possible).
Don't have stove on me, but you're ahead of AA, AK, and AQ and behind KK and QQ. The donkey provides overlay so I raise and calldown the three bet. Ughhh...read that a 5 dropped on the turn rather than a 6. Weep. A call is probably in order. |

Re: Playing 2 pair against both extremes (pty 2/4)
Call down. You are beating AK but losing to AA/KK/QQ. Even though it's much more likely that he has AK, I wouldn't want to get 3-bet here so I'd just call.

So what about the third guy? How often am I beating AK? How often am I getting raised after calling?

Re: Playing 2 pair against both extremes (pty 2/4)
This is probably results-oriented thinking. The pot is big enough that you can make a call now - if it's three back to you, you have to fold because you almost have the right price to draw out on trip sixes but you are dead against KK and drawing really thin against QQ. If the donkey raises and it comes back to you getting 15-1 I would make a call because the good player most likely has AA at that point (he would three-bet both big sets). When that happens, you have a twelfth of the deck to draw to and are safe. I would check-call the river if you miss and it's only one bet to you. It's just too big getting 17-1 on the end. The donkey might have AK for all you know.

Re: Playing 2 pair against both extremes (pty 2/4)
I'd call the turn. You are ahead of 8 AK combos, and behind 6+1+1=8 combos of AA/KK/QQ with the donkey providing a profitable overlay. If the donkey raises, the pot will be big enough to call 1 bet back with your boat outs (and some small chance that the passive donkey is overplaying his hand).
On the river, I could only find a fold if it's more than 1 bet to call or an ace drops and SB is still in the pot, but I'm not good enough to make that fold in the heat of battle. I like your flop line. NH. |
