Gazprom background information
Russia's Energetic Enigma, Ecomonist Article First part of second linked article: ACCORDING to the scuttle-butt, Vladimir Putin has a plan for when his second and—as Russia's constitution requires—last presidential term expires in 2008. Rather than changing the constitutional rules or becoming prime minister, Mr Putin may become boss of Gazprom, Russia's state-controlled gas monopoly. The rumour is as telling as it may turn out to be fanciful. Gazprom is a leviathan. Last week, it agreed to buy most of Sibneft, the country's fifth-biggest oil firm, in what will be the biggest takeover in Russian history. But Gazprom's gas resources are already so big that its new subsidiary barely disturbs the company's profile. Gas will still constitute 90% of its production next year. One Moscow investment bank calculates that for oil to account for half of its output, Gazprom would have to buy the entire Russian oil industry. Last year, Gazprom produced 20% of the world's gas. It has 60% of Russia's gas reserves and 16% of the world's. If it were a country, its oil and gas reserves combined would rank only behind Saudi Arabia's and Iran's. __________________________________________________ __ Everyone needs to study up on this for more than just political reasons. The links are worthy of close scrutiny. Investing comes to mind of course but there are many other avenues to explore. First is the unbounded potential that is naturally inherent in Capitialism, the first and foremost religion on the Planet (or will be once all the religious zealot scum are turned into hash, as is currently being undertaken on a small exploratory scale by Isreal). Second, Gazprom has illustrated in a grand way the bankrupt, imbecilic and moronic ideals of communism, socialism and all the other ism’s of the left. The remaining toadies and academic sycophants that still cling to the fully discredited delusions of the left are backpeddling into darkness and the backwaters of a fetid and grotesque history. Tossed upon the rubbish heap of idiot ideas let’s hope these leftist poltroons and montebanks are finally dead and gone. But I doubt it. -Zeno, I'll be back. |

Not surprising but this little test post proved very fruitful.
While the main focus of the majority on this forum is on some pitiful little conflict involving Israel vs. "Others", and all the attendant wild speculation and pedantic moralistic caterwauling, far more important things are happening all over the world that not only many miss but also fail to integrated into a cohesive worldview. This proves some important general principles about the throbbing masses: 1. The consistent myopic outlook displayed by many. 2. The powerful pull of emotional response to particular events that are completely out of proportion to what is deserved. 3. The failure of many to be forward looking in worldview and the unhealthy preoccupation with the past that many anchor to and few can overcome, to their own determinant. 4. The inherent foolhardiness of the mass of humanity to concern themselves with events or issues that may alter their already pre-conceived notions or worldview. 5. The ease of distraction, with that attendant gasp of surprise when the dark wolf breaks down the door, leaps for your throat, and bites your head off. In the last fleeting moments of thought before death- you have no idea how or why this remarkable bold stroke is occurring to you. Oh my. 6. The dismissive attitude and overall under appreciation of the economic factors that drive most of the great achievements and conflicts of mankind. 7. Why Andy Fox is a Yankee Fan. Le Misanthrope PS The recent issue of Forbes [July, 24] also has an article about Putin and Gazprom. |

The name itself, Gazprom, is worthy of attention.
Plus, look at the names on the Board of Directors: Medvedev Dmitry Anatolievich Miller Alexey Borisovich Ananenkov Alexander Georgievich Bergmann Bruckhard Gazizullin Farit Rafikovich Gref German Oskarovich Karpel Elena Evgenievna Sereda Mikhail Leonidovich Fedorov Boris Grigorievich Khristenko Viktor Borisovich Yusufov Igor Khanukovich W.C. Fields, Saki and S.J. Perelman would be proud. One can only imagine the corruption attendant to that behemoth of a company in Russia. Putin is smarter than he looks. Despite our attention to religion and politics and racism here, $ truly makes the world go round. As for the Yankees, Mickey Mantle is to blame. |

![]() [ QUOTE ] based on the lack of response, I would say im not alone in that opinion. [/ QUOTE ] True. You see, people spend so much time shouting at and passed each other, and usually to little affect, that listening, an art worth cultivating, becomes completely lost. A good listener is not only popular everywhere, but after awhile he knows something. -Wislon Mizner From listening comes wisdom, and from speaking repentance. - Italian Proverb -Zeno |
