Default Ciaffone/Reuben Quiz

There is a quiz in Pot-Limit and No-Limit Poker. Here are two that I did not get a perfect 10 on.

(8)Your hand: AT of hearts. Three of you see the flop in an unraised pot. 100 in the pot on a flop of 10d-7d-3h. First player bets 100, second folds, you call. Turn comes a 2h. Opponent bets 250 and you call. 800 in pot. You hit your backdoor flush when a Jh comes on the river. Opponent checks. How much do you bet?

1k? 800? or 500?

I picked 600 which wasn't one of the choices. The authors gave a perfect 10 for overbetting. 8 for 800. And 5 for betting 500.

(10) From the 82 WSOP. You get Ac-Qh in the BB. Johnny Moss opens UTG for 700, and Sam Moon calls. You call. The flop comes Qs-7h-2h giving tptk. You bet 1k, Moss calls, and Moon folds. Turn comes3h. You bet 4k, and Moss calls. River comes 6s. Moss has 9k left and you cover him. Question: what does Moss hold, and would you check or put him all in?

I picked bet which got a grade of 5 while check got a perfect grade of 10.

I think you have to realize about the hand with Johnny Moss that NLHE tournaments played a lot different than they do today. If they rewrote the book today, I'm sure they would opt for a bet there. But at the time, everyone and their mother was fairly tight.

Overbet should look like a busted draw depending on opponent but it may also look like 98 which got there.

I'd definitely check river in tournament hand, pot control, plus why not let Moss bluff if he has a worse hand or thinks you can be bluffed?
