How many cigarettes/time = addiction?
This is hypothetical. Im not a smoker, nor do i want to be (unless its green). Iv always wondered, "what if someon tried to hook themselves to cigarettes". I dont mean chainning 24/7, just maybe 1 pack a day. how long would it take untill you become addicted?
2 packs a day; same question 1 cigarett a day; same question. |

Re: How many cigarettes/time = addiction?
Well someone going from not smoking to a pack a day would probably just get sick and quit. But ignoring that I'd guess 3 or 4 days.
As for one cigarette a day, I did this myself more or less (maybe 5 every 3 days) and found out that I did get a very mild addiction in about a month. |

Re: How many cigarettes/time = addiction?
Given the variety of definitions of addiction, its an unanswerable question. On average, nicotine has a half life of about 40 minutes in the adult human male, indicating for serious physical addiction roughly 1 cigarette per 40 minutes awake would be needed. But that in itself is a meaningless statistic.

Re: How many cigarettes/time = addiction?
I smoked an average of one cigarette a day for probably 2 months. Stopped totally after that and haven't smoked one since. I'm sure this is totally different from person to person.

Re: How many cigarettes/time = addiction?
I have been consistently on the edge of addiction for the a long time and to get completely addicted you would need to smoke a pack a day for about 4 days.

what about liquor? my friends ppl tell me they drink a 12/pack every night, yet they dont look to bum-like-alcoholicky [/ QUOTE ] alcohol addiction is a different animal. Tons of people are addicted to booze but still function normally in society. They're addicted because they need to drink, or when they do drink, they're unable to control the amount that they drink. So somebody drinking a 12/pack every night isn't enough info to conclude addiction. |
