Lost Question (Season 1): The Flight Manifest and Sawyer
I starting watching Lost just after the start of the second season, so I decided to go back and watch first season on DVD. In the episode where Hurley takes a census of the members on the island and acquires the flight manifest, he states that Ethan is the only person not on the list. If he was comparing island names to manifest names, wouldn't the absence of Sawyer on the flight manifest also have caused some concern?
EDIT: not sure if this is TQZ or OOT content? |

Re: Lost Question (Season 1): The Flight Manifest and Sawyer
Is it not Hurley who brings up in the second series that his real name is James? From this, it is implied that Hurley knew along that his real name was James Ford. Perhaps there was an unseen discussion with Saywer during the census, or he already knew Sawyer's surname was Ford, or he knew he had seen Sawyer on the plan, or a combination of these things.

It just seemed like a fairly strange oversight. The whole thing with Ethan seemed very deliberate and obvious, but maybe that's because I already knew what happened to Claire.

i don't remember where they do it, but at some point it's made clear that Sawyer is on the manifest.

Re: Lost Question (Season 1): The Flight Manifest and Sawyer
Sawyer's the one who gave him the manifest. the next scene with hurley, he says "i interviewed everyone, got their names, only one isn't on it" then it cuts to Ethan. It's a pretty safe assumption that since Sawyer gave him the manifest, he probably gave him his real name.
sure, he could have picked a name from the manifest, but Hurley says all 46 names matched but 1--Ethan. Had Sawyer "stolen" another name, there would have been a discrepancy somewhere else (like a name not attached to a person) |

Re: Lost Question (Season 1): The Flight Manifest and Sawyer
The other thing I was thinking was that Sawyer crossed him name off the list, but that really doesn't make much sense. I guess it's just one of those backwards discrepencies (ie me knowing that Sawyer isn't his real name, although this could have been deduced from two episodes earlier when Sawyer states that he became the man he was hunting). Or Season 3 blows my mind wide open. On a semi-side note, I've been keeping an eye out for the relationship between Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Hurley.
